IN 1913 The amalgamated Miners’ Association of Broken Hill erected a memorial to the brave bandsmen of the Titanic which tragically sank in 1912. Due to the strong union connections which existed at the time the Broken Hill the miners felt a sense of solidarity with the bandsmen who refused to leave their lost despite facing likely death by doing so. The memorial in Broken Hill’s Sturt Park is thought to be one of only two in Australia dedicated to the bandsmen of the Titanic.
