Broken Hill Site 2015 World Record Stargazing Attempt

On 21st August the community of Broken Hill and visitors to town flocked to the Broken Hill Racecourse for the Outback Astronomy site of the Australian World Record Attempt.

Over 50 sites across the country came together to attempt the world record for most people stargazing across multiple sites in a country. Early reports are that the existing record was smashed on the night.

In Broken Hill over 220 people officially ‘gazed’ while many more assisted with the event.

Broken Hill Mayor Wincen Cuy praised the success of the event.

“What a perfect night it turned out to be… When you come out here, you’re in a different part of the world. The skies in Broken Hill are the best in the world”.
